In 2008, 5,290 motorcyclists were killed and an additional 96,000 were injured in motorcycle accidents across the country (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Unfortunately, many of these injuries are traumatic brain injuries and serious head injuries. In fact, more than 1.5 million people sustain traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in the United States each year and 51,000 people will lose their lives after a TBI. In all motorcycle crashes that occur throughout the United States, traumatic brain injuries are the leading cause of death.(source)
