The Pueblo Chieftain reports that according to a survey by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than half of all high school seniors admit to texting or emailing while driving. Amanda Lenhart of the Pew Research Center believes that these results are not surprising and indicates that texting is the most common way that many teens communicate with their peers. The survey did not ask about whether texting is done while the vehicle is in motion or stopped, at traffic lights for example, but the numbers still seem to reveal a rather unsettling trend in unsafe driving habits among teenagers.

Distraction.gov, an official government website for distracted driving, reports that over 3,000 people were killed in crashes involving distracted driving in 2010, with over 400,000 more injured.
